Kindergarten Darlings has created a math and literacy unit around apples. Please take the time to rate this unit. It is greatly appreciated.
The main focus of the unit is Number. Students will learn how to recognize numbers, write the numerals, as well as count sets and make sets from 0-10. The unit provides a Number Writing Book. Teachers can introduce a number a day. Students will learn write the numeral and how to represent the number in various ways (tally marks, five/ten frame, number word and sets of apples on an apple tree). The unit provides many number center activities: number dice toss (3 levels of support provided), sequencing numbers, Apples on the Tree (counting sets), apples in the basket (making sets) and more.
The other focus is on reading simple text and sight word recognition. The unit provides a shared reading book that touches on apple tree growth, apple parts and apple trees through the seasons. There is a student book on apple colors (available in color and blackline). In addition, the unit comes with literacy centers: sequencing the growth of an apple tree, Build a sentence, Match the sentence (match a simple sentence to a picture) and more.
Finally, the unit has an assessment section. The literacy assessments focus on reading and sight word recognition. The math assessments focus on counting, recognizing numbers, writing numbers, making sets and counting sets. There are whole class and individual recording sheets to keep the teacher organized.
