This is such a wonderful way for students to practice learning addition within 20! It’s a great visual and hands-on activity.
There are two cards per page for a total of 30 cards.
To prepare the cards you will need to print them out on cardstock, laminate and cut out each card.
To use just choose the cards which you would like your students to work with, provide them with a dry or wet erase marker (which ever one you prefer), and then some sort of counters. For counters I have used some small apple erasers I found in the Target dollar section. And, I have used red play dough for making the small apples.
Have the students figure out the missing addend by adding the number of apples (using the counters) to the basket to make the equation complete. Then they use the wet or dry erase marker to fill in the missing addend in the square. When they are done you just wipe the cards off and reuse.
