I created this fun, introductory mini-lesson for teaching Antonyms (opposites). After introducing and briefly discussing the meaning of antonyms and sharing some examples, the teacher can use this activity and worksheet!
Teacher Directions: Print onto colored cardstock, laminate and cut out cards Keep in a zip-lock bag to be reused year after year!
Mini-Lesson: After you discuss the meaning of antonyms and give a few examples, pass out 24 cards to students. Take out pairs for lesser amounts of students. Have a teacher hold a card for an odd number of students. Pass out cards face down. On the count of 3, have students walk around the room to find their antonym match. Students should stand with their partner. Go around the room and have each pair read aloud their antonym match. Record all antonym pairs on the board. To follow-up this activity, complete the “Apple Antonyms Matching” worksheet.
Also check out my synonym and antonym (combined) pairs matching worksheet, also available in my TPT store, as well as my Apple Antonym Matching Center, Smiling Synonyms Matching Activity and Worksheet, Smiling Synonyms Matching Center, etc. I also have a Springtime Synonyms and Snowman Synonyms Center for the seasons. Enjoy! :)
