Doing a bit of singing at the end of our day as a super-fun way of winding down, is something my students really enjoy and look forward to.
One of their favorite songs is B-I-N-G-O
It’s easy to learn
, and provides all sorts of teachable moments
I use it to teach clapping to a specific beat
, and tell my kiddos to listen for the pattern
, then see if they can repeat it.
The song is also an easy-peasy & great way to practice letter recognition, spelling
With that in mind, I made up a little “B-I-N-G-O” song for each month.
ones are for September
It took a bit of diddling 15 years ago, but I managed to come up with twelve, 5-letter words (one for each month) which also cover all of the letters of the alphabet
My Y5s were recognizing lots of letters
and understanding “taking 1 away”
, before we even got to specifically studying those letters or the concept of subtraction
, all because of the simple BINGO songs!
Stay tuned as I continue to post them when appropriate.
The packet includes . . .
* An A-P-P-L-E
song, as well as a C-I-D-E-R
* There’s a poster, pocket chart cards
for the words of the song, as well as subtraction cards
, plus colorful letter cards
in both upper & lowercase
, as well as a black & white worksheet
of letter cards, so that children can make their own, using them to teach their families the song, while once again reviewing a variety of skills.
Since my kiddos are also learning that apples
come in 3 colors
I made yellow, green & red
part of my lyrics
Print, laminate and trim the cards. Attach a magnet dot
to use on your white board, or a Velcro dot to use with a flannel board.
As we sing the song, I take a letter away, and point to the “subtraction card”
that represents that part of the verse.
I’m Diane from Teach With Me. Here’s hoping that your students enjoy this song as much as mine do. Wishing you a fun-filled fall.
