Alphabet Apples - a differentiated sound and letter activity.
RF.K.1d, RF.K.2d, RF.K.3.a

Version 1: Students choose an apple card that has a lowercase letter on it. They must read the letter and find the matching uppercase letter on the recording sheet. They color that apple the color of their apple card (green, red, or yellow).

Version 2: Students choose an apple card that has a picture on it. They must say the name of the picture and identify the beginning sound of the word. They then find the matching letter on the recording sheet and color the apple the color of their apple card (green, red, or yellow).

CVC Apples – a differentiated CVC word activity.
RF.K.2d

Version 1: Students choose an apple card with a picture on it. They must say the name of the picture. Then they use the number on the card to find the matching apple on their recording sheet. In that apple they write the CVC word.

Version 2: Students choose an apple card with a CVC word on it. They must read the word. Then they use the number on the card to find the matching apple on their recording sheet. In that apple they draw a picture of the CVC word.

Rotten Rhymes – a differentiated rhyme activity
RF.K.2a

Version 1: Students choose an apples card with two apples and pictures on them. They must identify the pictures and determine if they rhyme or do not rhyme. Then they use the number on the card to find the matching apples on the recording sheet. If the pictures on the card rhyme, they color the happy apple, if they do not rhyme, they color the sad apple.

Version 2: Students choose an apples card with three apples and pictures on them. They must identify the pictures and determine with picture does not rhyme. Then they use the number on the card to find the matching apple on the recording sheet. They color the apple on the sheet the color of the apple with the picture that does not rhyme from the card.

Sight Word Apples – sight word activity
RF.K.3c

**NOTE: This is not differentiated, however I have provided two versions of a recording sheet for students to trace words or write them independently. I have also provided a blank set of spinners so you can use the sight words that work best for your students.**

Students use a paper clip and pencil to spin a sight word on an apple spinner. They read the word and then write or trace it in an apple on the recording sheet.

Sweet Syllables – a differentiated syllable activity
RF.K.2b

Version 1: Students choose an apple card, say the picture, and clap the syllables. The first set of cards has lines, dividing the card into the number of sections that there are syllables. You may cut these into puzzle pieces or leave them intact. Once the student knows how many syllables there are, they use the letter on the card to find the matching apples on the recording sheet. They color the number of apples that there are syllables.

Version 2: Students choose an apple card, say the picture, and clap the syllables. They may use a clothespin, or just pinch with their fingers, to identify the number of syllables at the bottom of the card. Once the student knows how many syllables there are, they use the letter on the card to find the matching apples on the recording sheet. They color the number of apples that there are syllables.

Math Centers
