This quick, easy
and fun craftivity
will give your students the hands-on experience of “slicing an apple" into fractions
I truly believe that adding a bit of craftiness to a tedious concept, not only grabs students’ attention, but truly helps them understand what you’re trying to explain to them.
Cutting a paper “apple”, then assembling the pieces, will help reinforce the idea of fractions
, as well as the new vocabulary.
They can also see at a glance a divided apple. Using the 3 colors of an apple makes the visual pop.
There are two pattern options
The one pictured, as well as a trace and write
the word version.
When everyone is done, as a whole group, review each fraction
, then take a minute or two to play “Show Me!”
i.e “Show me the whole
apple; show me a quarter
of the apple; show me half
Students flip the pieces, which are attached by a staple, ’til whatever fraction
you’re asking for can be seen, then they hold their apple in the air.
This not only reinforces the vocabulary
and concept once more, it’s a quick, easy and fun way to whole group assess
This craftivity is included in my jumbo Apple Fraction Action Packet.
Buy the bundle and get a lot, while you save a bunch.
However, I had a request
for just this apple fraction craft, so here it is. I'm always happy to pull just the craft activities out of the jumbo packets and sell them separately.
