This is the PCS symbol version
This Animated Step-by-Step™ Poem the Apple Tree poem is a great poem for the Fall. It works on counting up to six but in the hnads of a creative teacher it can also be used to address the mathematical funcitons of addition and subtraction. “ I see three apple cores on the ground. We started with 6 apples. Let’s take away three. That leaves three apples in the tree. Let’s see if we’re correct”. There are little colored birds that are used as an attention getting device that can also be used to address color identification.
The Picture Communication Symbol Version! (PCS)
(select the category PCS on the left to display all PCS symbol-supported Animated Step-by-Steps™
The symbols are automatically added to each page AFTER completing all the animations for that page. This sequence ensures that the upfront presence of symbol support does not ‘steal attention’ from the focus on literacy.
Intuitively this makes sense as it allows you to focus on the literacy and comprehension components first … then allows you to review what you just read and saw using the symbol support, e.g., “Now let’s re-read the page using our picture symbols.” This layered approach is also less likely to result in ‘visual overload’!
Symbol supported files are a great way to address a full academic and communication agenda in mixed ability classrooms! Hope you enjoy using this flexible resource.
