Resource Directions:

Apples Literature List: Choose books from the list about apples to read to your students.


Apples Writing Station Words: Print and laminate a few colored copies of the Apples Writing Station words for students to use or copy one sheet for each student to put in their writing folder or journal.

Classroom Books:

“All About Apples” Classroom Book: After reading several books about apples. copy cover on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student. Have them write and draw something that they know about apples. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.

“A is for Apple” Classroom Book: Read the book ‘Apples A to Z” to students. A few times. Copy cover of classroom book on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student. Have student’s choose a letter and think of something that is about apples that begins with that letter. Ex: B: Blossoms; J: Juicy; T: Tasty. Have them fill out student sheet and draw what they were thinking. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.


Student Booklets:

How Many Apples Booklet: Students can work on this booklet during center or worktime practicing their colors and numbers. You can copy the pages on regular paper, they are printed so you can copy back to back to make individual student booklets.

Apple Senses Booklet: Copy and assemble each of the “ Apple Senses” booklets for each students . There are two booklet pages to each sheet with one cover and 6 other pages.. You can copy as many pages as you would like students to do. Students fill in the blank of each apple senses statement and then draw a picture of what they wrote.


Student Worksheets:

Apple Fact Sheet Organizers After reading informational text about apples students fill out this nonfiction organizer with 3 facts they have learned about Apples. Students must include a topic and concluding sentences about Apples At the bottom of the sheet students write out their facts and conclusion into sentences to make a paragraph. This paragraph can be typed up to make a classroom book or a student display. May also use the apple writing page for students to write their story.

“Apples” Writing Sheet: Students write a paragraph of what they know about apples with the sheets provided.

How Does an Apple Tree Look Organizer.: After reading the story a few times, have students fill out the organizer by drawing or writing words on what does an apple tree look like during the seasons of the year.

Story Elements Graphic Organizers (2 types): After reading a story from the literature list a few times, have students fill out the story elements: characters, setting, problem & ending., either by drawing or writing out with words.

Retelling Graphic Organizers (3 types): After reading a story from the literature list a few times have students fill out the story retelling organizer, beginning, middle, and ending of the story. Two organizer have the boxes with lines and one is an apple shape to organize the retelling.


Art Projects:


The Apple Poem Art Project: Copy and assemble the Apple Acrostic poem with the directions and template page in unit. Hang the Apples & poems in the hallway or in the classroom for decorations.

The Apple Core Art Project: Copy and assemble the Apple Core with the directions and template page in unit. Hang the Apples Cores in the hallway or in the classroom for decorations.


Literacy Centers:

Apples CVC Build a Word: After game cards are cut apart and mixed up, children take a picture card and build the word with the letter sounds to make the word. Children must have one of each colored apples to make the word. Ex: basket with cat picture needs the c-a-t to build the word correctly. Children can place the apples on top of the basket card to build the word.

Apple Make a Word Game: Students insert vowels apples (a,,e, i, o, u) onto line on the word cards and make words. Students can write words on white boards or paper. They may also use the Make A Word worksheets included in this resource.

Apples Roll It! Read It Short Vowel Sounds: Two game cards with words for Short Vowel Sounds of a, e, i, o & u; Students roll one dice and read the words or sentences in the row they have rolled.


Math Centers:

Apple Ten Frame Roll and Cover: Student chooses a side of game card to play and who will roll first. Roll one die and count your dots. Place that many counters on your ten frame . Continue taking turns rolling and placing your counters. The first person who cover both their ten frames wins!

Apple Roll & Bump 2 & 3 Addend Addition Games: Two Dice: Roll two dice and add those numbers. Cover that space with your marker. You can bump your partner’s color and take their space! If you cover a space with two markers stacked on top of each other, you lock that space and can’t be bumped. The player to use all ten of their markers first is the winner! Three Dice: Roll three number cubes and add those numbers. Cover that space with your marker. You can bump your partner’s color and take their space! If you cover a space with two markers stacked on top of each other, you lock that space and can’t be bumped.

Apple Greater Than, Less Than or Equal Clip Game: Children place a paper clip or clothes pin to the correct answer of which symbol: greater than , less than or equal to is correct. Students will comparing numbers from 0-100. Note: Put a little sticker on the back of card in the correct answer space so students can self-correct their answers.

Kids have some apple fun while learning a variety of skills!
