Apples by Gail Gibbons is the third book in the Second Four Weeks of School bundle. This non-fiction unit focuses on using students' schema on non-fiction text with a focus on making connections between and within ideas in a text, along with identifying the main idea and details of a text and the text features. Also included is support for the vocabulary standard, similar to The First Four Weeks of School bundle.
The unit is designed to be done as a close read 3 days in a row, with a focus on a different standard each day. If done in correlation with the other books in the bundle, students will begin to have a firm grasp on the majority of the Informational Text standards. This unit is also supported by going in depth with the comprehension strategies (schema and determining importance). Students will also begin to create a non-fiction text features notebook to help them break down the different parts that give information in an informational text.
