This unit was created for one week of whole group guided reading and writing. The theme for the week is APPLES. The focus reading strategy is NON-FICTION TEXT & FICTION TEXT. Each day a different story will focus on apples. Students will identify which type of text it is and why using an anchor chart provided. There are many other activities that are also incorporated from previous weeks of Guided Reading with a Purpose. Students will practice characters, setting, retelling, and text connections. There are lesson plan ideas, anchor charts, literacy connections, apple lifecycle books, crafts and idea for a cumulative project. A digital book is also included that can be opened as a pdf file or PowerPoint. This book discusses the apple lifecycle with real photos. It is all you will need and more to introduce, cover, and teach this concept of Apples.
The literature used in this unit is:
• Apples by Gibbons
• How Do Apples Grow by Maestro
• Johnny Appleseed (use any book)
• Bad Apple A Tale of Friendship by Hemingway
• Apple Lifecycle paper or digital version included by me
