Students should already know how to find the perimeter and area of basic shapes using integers prior to this lesson. These guided notes walk students through the process of finding the perimeter and area of a figure when the sides of the figure are given as polynomials (for example, two sides of a rectangle could be 3x-5 and 2x+1). Skills practiced including adding, subtracting and multiplying polynomials (multiplication is of binomials only). Students must also find the area of a shaded region by subtracting the area of the smaller figure from the larger. Created by Math with Mrs. Holst.
