These activities are great for the end of your place value unit. I use them for independent activities where students choose one of the three to work on. The projects are as follows:
If I Had a Million Dollars...
Students decide how they would spend $1,000,000. They are required to buy a house, car, and college education. They then decide what to spend the rest of the money on. They have a catalog of items to choose from or they can use the internet to find other items. They must write checks for each purchase and keep track of their money in an account statement. Students will practice adding, subtracting, comparing, and rounding.
Exploring the Solar System
Students will explore our solar system and use place value to understand each planet's size, length of day, and length of year. They will then use this information to practice comparing, subtracting, and rounding.
Students will go back in time to learn about a variety of dinosaurs. They will then apply their knowledge of place value to understand each dinosaur's length, weight, and how long ago they lived. Students will practice adding and comparing in this activity.
Everything students need to complete each product is found in this download.
