This is a great lesson to teach middle or high school students the importance of appropriate social media use. This product includes a PowerPoint detailed below and the accompanying article used in the lesson.
-This is a PowerPoint that contains the following:
1) Hook: The lesson starts out with 2 thought provoking questions that students will address regarding their knowledge of inappropriate social media use. The next 5 slides show real examples of people who got arrested due to their social media posts. These examples are meant to pique students’ interest.
2) At this point, you should segue the hook into the primary component of the lesson which is to read and analyze an article about teen girls who posted an inappropriate photo resulting in severe consequences. The next 3 slides provide specific instructions for the assignment (along with pictures/images aligned with the content in each slide): Read article out loud as a class, reread article individually highlighting important info, and a think, pair, share activity. The think, pair, share activity contains 4 questions used to analyze the article. Students are to answer these questions individually, then pair up with a partner to discuss, and finally participate in a class discussion.
3) The last slide is for teachers only and contains an answer key for the 4 questions.
-This is a Word document containing the article students are supposed to read for this lesson.
