Description
What teacher can resist pulling an epic prank on her unsuspecting students? If you're looking for a great April Fools' Day prank for your classroom, look no further... I LOVED planting doughnut seeds with my first grade students! This joke is great for kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade classes!
This file contains directions for the activity, "donut seeds" labels, and 4 printable handouts. Check out the preview for an up- close look.
You will need to supply the following materials:
1) Cereal (Cheerios or Fruit Loops are perfect)
2) Sandwich bags
3) Small cups or bowls
4) "Dirt" for planting the seeds- sugar, brown sugar, flour, powdered sugar, cookie crumbles, etc.- your choice!
5) Water or milk for "watering" the seeds
6) Mini donuts
When you tell your students that you're planting doughnut seeds, you'll inevitably have a few exclaim, “Those are just Cheerios!” My response was always, “Didn’t you know that’s what Cheerios are- donut seeds? What other types of seeds do you eat?” Even the skeptics will be blown away when they return to the classroom to discover that mini donuts "sprouted" while they were gone! Reveal the prank with the "crack- the- code" printable handout while students enjoy their homegrown snacks :)
The step- by- step printable worksheet and writing response, combined with a few photos of your prank in action, make a great April bulletin board!
