A class can have a lot of fun making these April Fools Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. If you get the color of the orange icing just right … they really do look like grilled cheese sandwiches. Your ‘April Fools victims’ will be surprised when the first bite reveals it really isn’t a grilled cheese sandwich …. it’s a dessert, instead. Since most food coloring sets do not include orange, students are invited to guess what two colors can be used to make the color orange. Obviously this April Fools Day prank relies heavily on mastering the color of ‘melted cheese”. Although not reflected in the recipe, I recommend that you color the white icing in small batches to ensure you get an orange color that looks like melted cheese.

• The task of activating animations is typically shared by students (by coming up to the interactive whiteboard to tap or by using a remote switch) or can be assigned to a single student undergoing training in switch use.
• Space has been allotted between the text lines to allow classroom staff to add picture symbols to the document to support an AAC agenda for students with Complex Communication Needs. (.pps file must be converted to .ppt or .pptx file to add symbol graphics)
• Allows differentiated instruction. Although the steps are presented using simple visuals of fractions (i.e., numerator directly over denominator) and avoids using cooking abbreviations, pages have a multifaceted star in the upper left corner that will allow you to quickly check the recipe amounts. This page presents slash fractions (e.g., ½) and abbreviations (e.g., tsp for teaspoon; tbsp for tablespoon) to accommodate the needs of students that are more advanced.
