Enjoy the spring weather outside! Save yourself time and purchase these math centers to use in your classroom. Each center has a student direction page as well as a blackline recording sheet. All of the literacy materials were created as supplements to the Pearson Reading Street Unit 4 Treasures. If you don’t use this reading program, you will still certainly be able to use them to reinforce 1st grade skills required with common core. Many options included for using this great resource!
Six math centers include:
*Equal Parts Sort- Ten color cards have a picture divided into two parts. Students sort onto the color mats based on whether the parts are equal or not. Laminate cards and sorting mats for use in a center. Blackline recording sheet is a cut and paste activity.
*Sprouting Subtrahends- 60 subtraction sentences missing a subtrahend are included. Students sort them into color sorting flower pots based on the missing subtrahend. Several options included for differentiating this activity for many levels of students.
*Pouring Down Place Value- Students roll two dice to choose numbers for the tens and ones place in this activity. Laminate the mat and have students write on it with dry erase or Expo markers. They can easily correct mistakes here before transferring their answers to the blackline recording sheet.
*Rainy Day Graphing- This graphing activity reinforces 21st century skills with interviewing others to find out their answer to how they stay dry during April Showers as well as addressing Common
Core data standards.
*Expanded Form Memory- 18 cards are included for each tens set up to 120 (18 cards for 10s, 18 cards for 20s, etc.). Six cards are written in expanded form, six matching cards are written in # tens + # ones and six matching cards have the number. Many options included to break up this resource to use with many levels of students!
Six literacy centers include:
*Sentence Scramble- Eight spring themed sentences that are cut apart and sorted to make complete sentences. Two blackline recording sheets (one with handwriting lines and one with lines) are included.
*Build A Word- Adorable "April Showers" and "May Flowers" letters are here. Students rearrange to build new words. Use the blackline for individual assessment or laminate the recording sheet and use mutliple times in a center.
*Spelling Sorts- Practice sheets for long a (ai and ay), long e (ea) and long 0 (oa and ow). Students cut apart spelling words and glue in the correct order on the recording sheet.
*Read It, Sort It, Write It- Two practice activities; one for –dge ending and one for –ai or –ay spelling. Use the color cards in a center or use the blackline cards with small groups or send home to practice or as homework. Blackline recording sheet included.
*Contraction Match- Twenty May Flowers with the contraction and words to make that contraction. These can be laminated and used in a center as is. You could also use velcro to attach the match for more hands on learning.
*Finish The Picture Spring Stories- Aligns with common core standard matching illustration to writing. Two April Showers and two May Flowers prompts.
