Aquarium Art Project: Habitats, Ocean/River, Geography, Water Cycle, Environment
Art with Mrs. Nguyen
Students will experience a true arts-integrated lesson, which connects art, science (fish species and habitats), social studies (geography), and language arts (summarizing and writing). Students will summarize important facts about their fish from a paragraph to create an informational display to accompany their artwork, create an aquarium habitat based on what they learn about their fish’s particular environment (freshwater vs. saltwater), and include a form of camouflage in their relief sculpture. (used to defend against predators). Students will also learn what kinetic art is (moving art) and learn what a relief sculpture is (a 3-D piece of artwork which is not meant to be viewed from all sides).
Included in this package is the introductory PowerPoint, fish printables, and lesson plan.
-I created and taught this lesson in my own 3rd grade art classes, however I could just as easily see it being taught in the general classroom.
-The PowerPoint was created for my home state of Georgia, however it would be just fine to teach in another state. You could switch out the state map if you really wanted to (may be unnecessary).
-This lesson takes approximately 5 days (45 minute periods).
