I found that there weren’t many activities for Archaea so I developed this one for my 7th grade. It is simple, but I think it gets the point across. It could be adapted for higher levels by just giving the 6 types and having them do all the research.
I give them the worksheet with the types of Archaea and a brief definition first. Some years I just give them the worksheet and have them add to their notebook, other years, I have them write the definitions in their notes as I write them on the board. Then, I pair the kids up and give them a large piece of construction paper. They need to put the word “Archaea” in the center and then branch off the 6 types of Archaea from there. Each Archaea type has 3 places or descriptions that go with it. An answer key is included. I let them use the Internet for ones they are stumped on. (Usually they are able to figure out based on process of elimination).
