PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This interactive digital resource for Google Drive will help students learn to identify archetypes in literature. This is a skill all AP students must learn. An archetype, also known as universal symbol, may be imagery, a character, a theme, a plot, a symbol or even a setting.

Many kinds of connections link ancient literature with modern stories, plays, and poems. Part of the pleasure of reading literature is in discovering these similarities.

This lesson provides examples of similar themes, plots, imagery, and characters that recur throughout all types of literature.

Students will complete a pre-writing chart to prepare for their writing assignment. They will think about the selections they have read while in your class and try to think of connections between them. Choose at least two (hopefully more) selections that have elements in common.

Then, they will follow instructions to write a critical essay on the connections they have discovered. Before they write, they will view the rubric that the teacher will use to grade their essays. This way, they will know exactly what is expected of them.

This lesson may be used two ways:
1) Print the materials and distribute them to your students.
2) Instead of printing the pages and distributing them to students, you can give them a link to each page and they can view the digital slide in their Google Drive and record their answers on Google Slides. Students can submit their work to you however you wish. (Google Classroom, email, etc.)

Using the Google Drive Resource will save you hours of time and reams of paper.

The benefits of Google Drive Resources include:

• Share lessons and exercises one page at a time.
• Students can access the materials from anywhere they have access to their Google Drive.
• Students work directly in the file.
• Increase student engagement.
• Go Paperless. No need to use a copy machine.
• No printing is required; however, if you wish to print, it will look great!
• No lost assignments.
• Infuse technology.
• Readiness for college.
• Google Drive is completely free for teachers and students.

Enjoy!
