PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

By far my favorite project of the year, this Geometry area project will have your students excited about math! My students thought this was challenging but "the best project they have ever done". For example projects and teacher resources for the project visit www.meghanbenson.com.

Students work in pairs to construct a model home and calculate its area. Additionally, they must calculate the amount of paint, tile, and carpet needed for their home and the cost to build, the asking price, and the selling price of their home. They are given minimum dimensions for each room and requirements for the number of polygons that must be used to construct their house. Included in this download is a project description, mastery objective, all worksheets needed to complete the project, a detailed rubric for students, and a link to my website for example projects.

Students should have an understanding of similarity in polygons, scale factors, and polygons. Extensions to this project could include the use of trigonometry, surface area, and volume (not included in this PDF download).
