All preschool, kindergarten, first grade, and special ed literacy programs benefit from simple emergent readers! In this Arctic and Antarctic Animals Emergent Reader, we've taken some of our favorite Winter Animals and paired them with repetitive text that reads, "Look, it is a __________"
Images and text include: polar bear, arctic wolf, arctic hare, moose, narwhal, blue whale, snowy owl, walrus and musk ox. Sight words in the books are "look", "is" "a", and "an".
You could discuss proper nouns and whether you use an "a" or "an" as mini-lessons during the guided reading!
The books have 11 pages each, including the cover page that has an area for students to write their names.
There are two stories on each page. There's a black and white version for students to color, and there's also a color version for your guided reading groups.
We hope this emergent reader has your students excited about learning about arctic animals and gaining confidence as new readers!
Please note: This is NOT an editable document. It is a PDF. You cannot change the wording of the story or font.
