Product Description
Research Arctic Animals- the Easy Way

This pack was created for 2nd- 3rd grade writers to support informational writing. Often it can be hard to gather effective resources when writing about a theme. So I tried my best to gather them all in one spot for you!

This pack is perfect for the winter months. Students can either select or be assigned an arctic animal to research. This pack specifically has materials for the following arctic animals:

• Reindeer (model)
• Arctic Fox
• Polar Bear
• Puffin
• Snowy White Owl
• Walrus

However, I also included, “generic” forms so students can research any animal of his or her choosing.

For each animal, I have included the following forms:
• Animal Fact Card
• Suggested Websites for Research
• Whole Page Graphic Organizers
• Small Graphic Organizers Research Book
• Informational Book for Publishing

Text Features included in the Informational Book for Publishing include:
• Table of contents
• Glossary
• Index
• Map
• Chart
• Captions
• Places for photos or pictures.
• Teachers can easily require types of print as well, which would be used for the glossary

Another option for publishing the final draft would be to create an Informational Article. A template has been included as well. These are in the same format as my informational articles that can be found on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Also included is an Animal Trading Card. These are perfect for students to complete as exit slips while researching. Copy both pages of the trading cards, front to back. Then, have students complete the information- recopy as needed to have the same information on each of the four cards. Finally, the students can cut the cards out and trade among each other to show all they have learned about their arctic animal!

This product was created as a perfect accompaniment to my pack, Reindeer-Teaching-Main-Idea-and-Text-Features-with-an-Informational-Article .
It contains an article about the reindeer with several text features. Students complete a text feature hunt and also practice finding the main idea. This would be a perfect introduction to this unit, before teaching students to create topic sentences and making the students familiar with arctic animals, specifically the reindeer.

Happy Learning!
