Students will put themselves in the place of either a Patriot or a Loyalist during the Revolutionary War. They will write letters to the King of England, from their chosen point of view, either to request that he repeal taxes or to express their support of him as king. They will use evidence from what they have learned about the events leading up to the war to support the opinion expressed in the letter. This assignment also gives an opportunity to practice using proper letter format and general writing skills. It can be used as a means to review information learned about pre-Revolutionary War events.
