This set includes 6 families of 4. Your job is to group the cards into 6 families in such a way that all of the cards in the family are related to each other in some way. You’ll know if you’ve done this correctly when you’ve made 6 families of 4. SOLUTIONS ARE INCLUDED.
Print out the PDF and cut out 16 cards per sheet (no wasted paper!) to be able to use this product immediately! This card set can be made in 20 minutes or less and can be used over and over.
This activity promotes collaboration and academic discussion as students work to find out what relates members of each family. When I give this in class, I give students very little instruction and only tell them to find 6 families of 4.
Note: This activity takes a group of 3 AP Calculus students about 15-25 minutes. An extension activity could be given to find the actual area of the shaded regions for each of the families.
