Product Description
In this activity, students explore areas of a rectangle, parallelogram, triangle, and circle to understand the formulas and why they work.

By cutting the shapes and attempting to create a rectangle, students discover why each area formula works.

I created this lesson because I never want students to simply memorize formulas without understanding where they came from or why they work. The activity can be used in middle school, or even in high school when many students still struggle to understand area.
