Teaching Tip: Laminate task cards and have students use a dry erase marker to work out each problem right on the task card! In order for them to be “wipe on, wipe off” they must be laminated. Once laminated, students can use a small pen size (fine tip) dry erase (Expo) marker to write on them.

These task cards meet all standards for 4.MD.3. They can be used for 3.MD.7 or as a fifth-grade review.

#1 (Scoot Game) Print, cut, and laminate the cards. Copy the student answer sheet. *Optional: Allow students to write on the cards with a fine tip dry erase marker, and then have them place their final answers on their answer sheet. Make sure students have an eraser or tissue to erase their work. Then, pass to the next student.

#2 (For a math center) Print, cut, and laminate the cards. Print or copy the answer keys for the math center. *Optional: Have students use a fine tip dry erase marker to find the answer, allow students to check their work using the answer key (working with a partner seems to work well for this). Then, have students erase their work and pick a new card. Or, you could also just use the answer sheets provided.

#3 Print and copy all the task cards for students on one sheet (do not cut apart). Students can place their answers directly on each task card. A great way to assess students individually!

*Individual answer sheets are included.

*Note: The last set of task cards (Area & Perimeter) are more challenging.

Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
Relate area to the operations of multiplication and addition.
