Area Perimeter Play Reader's Theater + Worksheet "The Hoppers vs. the Coyote"

This 13 page area and perimeter reader's theater printable and worksheet is a fun way to introduce or reinforce the steps needed to find the area and perimeter of rectangles. The area/perimeter reader's theater has 16 speaking parts, so many students are able to participate. Also included is a roster sheet to help you keep track of students' roles in the reader's theater, and an accompanying area perimeter worksheet to allows students to practice skills they learned in the story. An answer key is also included for the worksheet.

I tried to interject humor throughout this reader's theater, so I hope your students laugh as they learn about area and perimeter. This reader's theater is divided into ten different sections, so you might wish to read a few sections each day.

The story takes place in a fictional habitat called Conifer Forest National Park. The rabbit family named the Hoppers, is made up of Mrs. Hopper, Harey, Buttercup, and Honey Bunny. Mrs. Hopper is concerned because a coyote has been watching her young rabbits as they eat plants each day. She asks her friend Mr. Chisel – a beaver, to help her protect her bunnies. With help from the children, Mr. Chisel builds various fences. Harey learns how to find the area and perimeter of rectangles as the play progresses. The coyote tries to assure the family that he means no harm, but in the end he is defeated.
