Do your students need some extra practice on the topics of area and perimeter? Try these area & perimeter task cards for third grade students.
The third grade standards covered are:
3.MD.6 - Measure areas by counting unit squares.
3.MD.7.b - Multiply side lengths to find areas of rectangles with whole-number side lengths in the context of solving real world and mathematical problems.
3.MD.7.d - Recognize area as additive. Find areas of rectilinear figures by decomposing them into non-overlapping rectangles and adding the areas of the non-overlapping parts.
3.MD.8 - Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including find the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same area and different perimeters.
This packet contains 32 (plus 4 bonus) task cards that review area and perimeter. Each task card contains one question and is labeled with the 3rd grade common core state standard that it covers.
These task cards can be used:
As a group activity: Post the cards around your room and allow students to move around, completing the questions.
As a small group or individual activity: Keep the task cards in a math center for independent practice.
Two recording sheets are provided. The first provides space for all 36 task card answers. Students can use the space provided or additional notebook paper to show their work. The second recording sheet provides space for 18 answers. This sheet can be provided for students to complete a smaller selection of cards, or can be photocopied back to back so students can answer all 36 cards, but with more work space. For the second recording sheet, students must record the number of the task cards they complete.
**Please note that the task card questions vary in difficulty**
**Task cards are provided in two versions - color and black & white**
