Description

This product contains a PowerPoint and corresponding note taker to teach students about finding the area of rectangles. If gives students an opportunity to explore finding the area of a rectangle, then gives them the area formula. It provides them with notes that explain how to use the formula and practice. It also discusses how to find the length or width of a rectangle when given the other side and the total area using their knowledge of factors and/or inverse operation using the area formula. It gives practice to students to do both of these task as well.

This product is aligned to the following state standard:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.3
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.

I loved this resource for teaching area to my students. I had to change up some questions to better match 3rd graders since it was not designed for them, but some of the problems were good challenges to extend their thinking.
