This Comprehensive Unit contains a 119 slide powerpoint to guide all of your instruction, and over 30 pages of printables, including four lesson plans, printable worksheets, activities, centers, a unit quiz, and answer keys for all files included!
This Unit covers everything your students will need to know about area and perimeter required by the common core, plus two extended thinking lessons for higher order thinking, to really challenge your students and to reach classroom synthesis with these standards!
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
The powerpoint is full of formative assessments covering the 4th grade CCSS's and quickly reviewing the 3rd grade standards wherever it will help the students in their growth for these concepts.
Area: The basics (Area in square units, and using formulas)
Perimeter, the basics: perimeter formulas, and a thorough explanation of how finding perimeter works in any shape when just adding the outside of the shape.
Lesson 3 (Higher Order Thinking)
Finding the area and perimeter of combined rectangles
Lesson 4 (Higher Order Thinking)
Problem Solving and extending thinking with area. Students will find the area of complex rectangles and squares, as well as find the area of a shape that is missing a space. (Example: find the area of the wall, but don't include the window.)
-Four complete lesson plans
-Practice with area printable worksheet or homework
-Practice with perimeter printable worksheet or homework
-Area and Perimeter Geoboard Center
-Quiz (30 question assessment for the first two lessons)
-Area and Perimeter blueprint activity or center
-Combined Rectangles extended thinking worksheet or homework
