A fun and engaging math center! Also, this is two games in one! This game is played just like the card game war. The students (or you) decide whether they want to play area battle or perimeter battle. They flip over their card and each player calculates the area or perimeter of their rectangle. The student with the larger area or perimeter wins both cards. The winner is the student with the most cards or all of the cards.
This is common core aligned with fourth grade standards. It can be used as a challenge in a third grade classroom or as a review in a fifth grade classroom.
4.M.3: Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real-world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
