This game is alligned to the common core math standards for 6th grade (CCSS.Math.Content.4.MD.A.3 and CCSS.Math.Content.6.G.A.1).
It is designed to review area and perimeter while allowing students to work together to solve problems with challenging shapes.
Skills covered include the area and perimeter of the following shapes:
Rectangles, Triangles, Trapezoids, Combination Shapes
Print cards on card stock.
Cut and laminate cards for durability.
1. Use in a game board format. Students draw a card and solve the problem. If they solve correctly, they could roll a dice and move the number of spaces.
2. Use as task cards to play “Around the World.” Place one card on each child’s desk. Give a certain amount of time for children to spend at each station. They should record their answer on the given answer sheet. Rotate when you call the time.
3. Use in a quiz format. Display one card at a time to a whole group on a document camera. Students record their answer on the given answer sheet.
4. Play any of the above ideas with only area or only perimeter, depending on your needs.
Use the answer key that is included so that students can check their work.
