This is a great project to use as an authentic assessment at the end of unit on area, perimeter and measurement. It allows students to be creative, while applying what they have learned about how to find the area and perimeter of different shapes!
You can use the documents that go along with this project however you like! In this document I have included an explanation of how I used the documents and how students created their floor plans and houses over the course of a seven-day unit. I have also included a rubric to go along with the project.
I originally created this project for my fourth grade class. It requires students to be able to multiply to find the area of their shapes. However, I have also used the same project for a third grade class and had students measure their shapes on centimeter grid paper and then count the square units to find the area.
I hope you will be able to use this awesome project in your own classroom!
