Looking for a way to spice up those monotonous area and perimeter problems? Have you tried out error analysis tasks yet?? Students love to catch mistakes in OTHER students' work...
Error analysis problems are a great way to check your students' understanding of a concept. Instead of just solving the same problems again and again on a worksheet, they have to use their critical thinking skills to determine where, if anywhere, the example student(s) went wrong. This forces them to think outside of the box and develop a deeper understanding of the WHY behind the procedures and processes.
This download includes five error analysis problems that practice calculating area and/or perimeter of rectangles.
This product perfectly aligns with 4th grade Common Core standard: 4.MD.A.3:
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. It would also work well in a 3rd or 5th grade classroom.
These tasks would be great to use during guided math centers, whole-group centers, or independent practice.
