Get Squared is a hands on math activity I created for my students in order to give them practice on calculating the area and perimeter of quadrilaterals. Students are given an assortment of 6 objects. Using a square tiles, they must measure the length of all four sides of each object, and then add the sides together to calculate the perimeter of each object. Then, students must cover each object with the square tiles to calculate the area. This activity can be used as a center activity or completed with the whole class with the students working in groups or teams. This activity was designed for 3rd graders but will work well with many other grade levels. It meets the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) for 3rd grade math. Included with this worksheet are teacher instructions for how to best utilize this activity.
