March basketball playoffs is always a blast! My students are always talking about it, so I have created a lesson using area and perimeter that involves basketball.
In the lesson the coaches “get together” and want to know the area and perimeter of the court (half court, lane, etc.). While I know this information is not necessarily needed for the sport, it is a fun way to incorporate math into the tournament.
There are three versions of the lesson—one can be used before or during the “First Four”, the second one is one that can be used throughout the tournament, and the last one can be used for the championship game.
