Help Farmer Peter with his pumpkin patch! These two mini-projects are a fun way to deepen your students' understanding of area and perimeter concepts. This resource is perfect for October or any time of year!
There are 2 problems included. Each problem includes differentiated options to meet student needs at different levels, answer keys, and color and blackline options.
PROBLEM #1: Farmer Peter's Pumpkin Patch
This problem requires students to relate area to multiplication in order to solve a real world mathematical problem. As they find different ways to arrange the group of pumpkins, students will learn that rectangles with the same area can have different perimeters. I have included a number of options for you to help differentiate this task for students at different levels.
PROBLEM #2: Farmer Peter's Purple Pumpkins
This problem requires students to solve a real world problem by representing the distributive property using an area model. Differentiated options with various levels of scaffolding are provided to meet student needs.
