This is a project that lets students learn about the concepts of area and perimeter.
For this project, the students have been hired by their principal to build garden boxes for their school grounds. They have specific requirements to build these boxes, how to plant the flowers in the boxes and how to present their information. Their final product will be a presentation to their "principal" with a poster explaining their garden design.
In this unit students will work with finding area, perimeter, multiplication, money for the cost of materials, and will create a table a graph of the cost of their materials. Students will also be making a map of their garden.
This unit is broken down into 4 major tasks (or lesson days) with two extra challenge tasks for students who need and extra challenge or are quick workers.
This unit can be taught to a whole class, to a small group, or to individuals.
