When many people think of classroom transformations, they think:

“This would take me hours to set up.”

“This is going to cost so much money.”

“This looks so overwhelming.”

“I could never do this!”

What if I told you classroom transformations could be EASY to set up, FUN to implement, and STRESS-FREE?

Let's Start with the Basics...What is a Classroom Transformation?

A room transformation changes your room into a certain setting or theme to engage students in their own learning with rigorous content.

Classroom transformations are possible in EVERY classroom. You don’t have to spend hours of your time setting up a classroom transformation or spend lots of money to make it SO MUCH FUN!

A Quick Description

Have students pretend they are realtors for a day. Students complete 10 area and perimeter math challenges. Print out all 10 posters and all 10 aligned challenges. Distribute them around your room. Give each child a recording sheet. Explain to students that they will become business owners and will need to complete all challenges. They have to find all the challenges you've left around the classroom and find the answers to each one. They use the recording sheet to mark off each challenge as they go.

This math activity is perfect for 3rd graders. It aligns with 3.MD.5-3.MD.8.

How to Play

Step 1: Tell your 3rd grade class that they are realtors today and will practice finding the area and perimeter of rectangles. Students solve math challenges set up around the room. They can be completed in any order and you can choose how many challenges students complete or what time frame they have to meet YOUR needs.

Set-up is quick and easy. Simply print the 10 posters, the math worksheets, and a recording sheet for each student. Place them around your room and you’re ready to begin! Additional door décor, editable name tags, editable admission tickets, and themed banner are included if you want to use them!

Step 2: Let students move around the room and solve each challenge! Each time students solve a math challenge, they go to the teacher to get it checked. Students can work independently, in partners, or groups. Your choice.

Step 3: When students finish all ten challenges (or however many you assign), they win! You can give them the certificate of completion included.

Step 4: Most of the time, there are early or fast finishers! These kiddos get to go around the room and scan the QR codes provided! Each QR code leads to a fun fact about realtors and real estate that they can record on the sheet provided or a piece of notebook paper. This keeps everyone happy and on task!

There is an editable challenge paper included. This means if one of the challenges doesn't work for your classroom, you can make your own! There are ten pre-made challenges included for you to use but we all know sometimes changes are necessary to best fit your classroom :) These challenges are aligned to Common Core and TEKS.

This is a perfect review activity before giving an area and perimeter assessment or as an extra practice activity. Step by step lesson plans are included so you know exactly what to do. It can be used as a spiral review and is easy to set up and implement. The QR codes add in technology as well. Classroom transformation ideas are a new trend in education and can set the stage to engage!

These classroom transformations can be used for elementary children as a worksheet alternative, printables, in math stations, center rotations, math centers, as enrichment or remediation, in small groups, as test prep, as worksheets, escape room alternatives, homework practice (take what you don’t finish home for homework), digital theme days, end of year themed days, classroom transformation kits, printables, and so much more! These math activities are made to be flexible so you can use them however you’d like in your classroom.

You no longer need to spend hours prepping your classroom for your next classroom transformation! These hands on, low prep activities will keep your students engaged while practicing rigorous material at the same time.

I also have another area and perimeter classroom transformation. This one is more of a REVIEW of all third grade area and perimeter skills whereas the realtor one is more of an INTRODUCTION to area and perimeter. I do both within a month of each other!Check the Safari Area and Perimeter Review out here.
