This activity contains 20 real-world area and perimeter word problems. These questions do not use the words 'area' or 'perimeter' so teachers can assess whether students can distinguish between the two concepts.
Cut the questions apart and give each student(s) a complete set. Then have students work collaboratively or individually to sort the questions by type. Conclude the activity by discussing the characteristics of both types of questions and have students pick 2-3 of each to solve.
Or use the questions in a station for standardized test practice.
(Some questions may need to be omitted for younger or struggling students due to level of difficulty.)
