The download comes with a powerpoint presentation about a penguin couple, Mr. and Mrs. Pepper Penguin who are in need of a nest for their new baby.
Students will love this story about penguins and teachers will love integrating literature into math.
The powerpoint asks students to problem solve and create a nest to make Mrs. Pepper happy. The PowerPoint is interactive and will allow students time to problem solve with their shoulder partners.
As an extension, students will create their own penguin nests using the Nest Building Cards. Download comes with 12 Nest Building Cards and 4 blank cards to use if needed.
The Nest Building Cards require students to problem solve and create rectangles or squares with a certain area and perimeter.
Download comes with teacher notes and pictures from my own classroom completing the activity.
