Students will color in the squares only where a picture of the animal is present. They will then count the colored squares and that is the area of their animal. Students will sound out the name of the animal (or you can write it for them) and then write the area # in the blank.

There are 22 different animals so each student can have a different animal. Some are larger and have more squares and others smaller so you can easily differentiate instruction for those struggling with numbers in the double digits.
