Students will use recognizable shapes with known area formulas to piece together complex/irregular figures. By exploring the composition of the figures visually, they can more easily decompose any figure into smaller pieces that create it in the future.
This activity includes semicircles, rectangles, and triangles. If you would like the same type of activity but do not want to include circular figures, check out my activity, "Area of Complex Figures." I have also bundled the two together to allow for scaffolding and differentiation. See "Area of Complex Figures Bundle" for both activities for less than $5!
