This lesson plan includes a warm up, class activity, power point presentation, class notes for the student to fill in during the lesson, a quiz, homework, and a bulletin board poster.
Students derive the formula for the area of a trapezoid using a shape-building activity. The students use cut outs to build different parallelograms. They will see that the area of the trapezoid is half the area of the parallelograms.
The power point presentation solidifies the activity and makes sure all students were able to figure out the formula for the area of trapezoids.
This is great to use after the Area of Parallelograms Shape Building Activity found in the Geometry Category. It is not as extensive as the introductory work would have already been completed in the parallelogram activity.
The homework has has two pages of problems and there is a copy with no numbers so you can make it as easy or difficult as you want for computations..
There are also a numberless copy of the quiz.
Answer keys for the assignments and teacher copies are provided.
