Discovery learning is one of the best ways to make your math lessons stick!
In this project, students discover why the area formula for a triangle is 1/2 (base x height).
Using grid paper, rulers, crayons, and construction paper, students create a rectangle and then draw a triangle inside. Students use this figure to show that the rectangle can be made into two congruent triangles.
My students had a much better understanding of the area of a triangle formula after completing this assignment.
Included is an instruction page/rubric to give students and an example of the completed project.
