Description

This digital notebook helps students organize an argumentative essay based on a topic they've previously researched. This notebook/unit does not include the research portion or lessons on how to research. It is merely meant for writing an essay. In my classes, we did an entire research unit first, then this followed that.

What students will do in this notebook:

  • Create a claim based on research they've done on a topic (opinion-based).
  • Determine 3 reasons to support the claim.
  • Gather evidence (pros and cons) from their sources in organized, manipulative slides.
  • Practice using counterclaims and refutations, using highlighting to help craft clear writing to support their claims.
  • Focus on BOTH sides of an issue when writing.
  • Write the essay with a detailed outline.
  • Use color-coded highlights to be sure their essay is set up properly.

Sample slides included.
