APEs (Argument, Proof, Explanation) are used in writing courses to guide students to creating cohesive, coherent and structured paragraphs. I have adapted the APE guidelines that writing teachers use to fit social studies/history curriculum. This document contains my guidelines and an explanation of APEs. You will be amazed how much improvement you'll see in your students' writing once you implement this guideline. Many students have had their writing "A-HA!" moment once they've used this in their writing.
