Here are TWO high-interest argumentative essays which will help students identify and explore the parts of an argument: Claim, Evidence, Reason/Warrant, Counterclaim, Rebuttal and Conclusion.
The first essay has each part labeled so your students can see an example of the structure and discuss how all the pieces fit together. The second argument is not labeled so that your students can find and highlight or underline the parts of an argument on their own.
These activities serve as a great introduction to argument writing, or additional practice for struggling students!
