Use this Mystery Picture to give your students practice with identifying claims, opposing claims, evidence, logos and pathos - all based on two texts about Easter Island.
My 8th graders read the two texts and then practiced with the terms using my Argumentation task Cards.
Now feeling confident with the vocabulary, I gave them a bit more of a challenge with the Mystery Picture.
Students are asked to read each box and color the boxes according to a key where all the claims are one color, the opposing claims another and so on. If they color them correctly, the word ARGUE will appear.
This is a challenging activity, but if you give the students hints like that the components are grouped together, or the picture is actually a word, this would probably lessen the difficulty for students who might not be up to the challenge.
