With the onset of the Ohio AIR Test, ‘Power’ standards have become more than just a buzz phrase that has been circulating around the educational profession. Because of the high level of rigor associated with writing argumentative essays and responses, the ‘Power’ standard label has been giving to this kind of writing and many states have incorporated them into the mandatory test the students are forced to take. That said, the Argument Writing Packet produced by R2W helps students identify and analyze arguments within an article as well as use the information found to compose an argumentative essay of their own. It’s applicable to any prompt or any article that presents an argument, yet meets the rigor required by the state.
Designed for grades 6-8.
Can also be used for Writing Workshops, Homebound instruction, Independent work, or Whole Class instruction.
